Project Coordinator

THE POSITION: Working closely with Bow Seat’s Program Director, the Coordinator will be responsible for supporting daily programming and outreach efforts. We are seeking an organized and creative individual with experience in program administration and communications, and who has a passion for marine science, environmental advocacy, arts education, or youth development. A collaborative mindset, people skills, and an ability to travel are a must, as well as the availability to work or travel on weekends occasionally.

Much of the Coordinator’s work can be done remotely, but the candidate must be able to meet weekly with the Bow Seat team in Westwood, Massachusetts. We are looking for a candidate who can make a 2+ year commitment to the position, with opportunity for growth to the role of full-time Project Manager if the position becomes available.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  

Administering Contest logistics

  • Oversee data management and analysis through the online Contest platform
  • Coordinate judging process: establish timelines and schedule meetings, draft tutorials, assign submissions, and maintain ongoing communications with judges
  • Maintain databases and files of participants, sponsors, and submissions
  • Respond to participant questions received via email or chat
  • Assist in developing Contest promotional materials such as flyers and postcards
  • Assist in developing and assessing participant survey responses 

Coordinating Bow Seat’s social media and online presence

  • Curate content about Bow Seat, student artists, and ocean-related news via social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and WordPress
  • Assist in maintaining and updating Bow Seat website as needed
  • Leverage online and social networks to strengthen relationships with existing and prospective students, teachers, nonprofit partners, the media, and other collaborators in the arts, education, and environmental sectors

 Participating in outreach programs or events

  • Table at local and national events to increase awareness of Bow Seat’s programming, showcase our students’ creative work, and sell merchandise
  • Support, develop, and/or run environmental arts-themed workshops or programs
  • Prepare student artwork for exhibition opportunities, including setting up and breaking down at locations and maintaining exhibit schedule
  • Attend approved conferences and workshops to advance professional knowledge and to network with experts in relevant fields; share learnings with Bow Seat team
  • Maintain database of Bow Seat’s community engagement activities

 Managing Bow Seat’s e-commerce platforms

  • Fulfill orders received via Bow Seat’s Etsy shop
  • Maintain database of sales records
  • Update current e-commerce platforms as needed
  • Assist in development and design of new products; identify suppliers whose manufacturing, packaging, and other processes align with Bow Seat’s ocean-friendly values
  • Research alternative e-commerce platforms and develop marketing strategies to increase overall sales

 Developing new strategies that further Bow Seat’s mission and goals

  • Identify opportunities to showcase Bow Seat’s programming and students’ creative work (e.g., art galleries, film festivals, literary publications, etc.)
  • Assist in the research and design of other strategies or campaigns to help Bow Seat achieve our mission

QUALIFICATIONS:   

Required

  • Undergraduate degree in Nonprofit Management, Marketing, Communications, Environmental Studies, Marine Biology, Education, or other relevant field
  • Experience managing social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
  • Strong research and written and oral communication skills; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Dropbox, and database management platforms
  • Highly self-motivated and directed, with sharp attention to detail and conscientious follow-through; ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in remote work settings
  • Passion for Bow Seat’s mission and ability to inspire others to support that mission

Desired

  • Experience in environmental education, community outreach, or youth development
  • Experience in event planning
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite or other graphic and digital design platforms
