11th Grade Writing Instructor

SEO SCHOLARS is a free, eight-year academic program that gets low-income public high school students to and through college. During high school, SEO Scholars provides over 720 hours of rigorous English and math instruction after school, on Saturdays, and in the summers. THE JOB
SEO Scholars guides students through the college application process, devoting significant time to the development of their personal statements. Writing Instructors teach writing classes that introduce our 11th Grade Scholars to personal statements as well as lead workshops and offer individualized writing coaching to help the Scholars craft strong drafts that can be further developed in 12th Grade. 

• Focus on Instruction – All syllabi, lesson plans, and student handouts, are provided. Instructors will deliver lessons and workshops related to personal statements. SEO provides professional development, individual coaching, and opportunities to engage with other instructors in a collegial, inspiring environment that encourages reflection and growth.
• Develop Students as Writers – Instructors coach students through their writing process of personal statements with the aim of developing students as writers. By participating in continual revision, peer review, and collaboration, students deepen their understanding of the writing process and increase their confidence as writers.
• Provide Feedback – Instructors are responsible for thoroughly preparing to teach, providing individualized feedback on students’ writing, and upholding SEO Scholars policies and core teaching principles. Instructors work both in-person with scholars and remotely via Google Docs to provide feedback.

THE SCHEDULE
11th grade spring writing classes begin on Saturday, March 3rd, and end on Saturday, June 9th.  Classes meet approximately 2 Saturdays per month from 1:30-2:30 PM from March through April and 9:30 AM – 1:30 PM during May. June 9th is a special event from 9:30 AM – 12 PM.  During April and May, there may be weekday hours requested, typically Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 4:30 PM – 6:30 PM.
