Corporate Project Operations Manager

Position Description: Corporate Project Operations Manager

Mission: Boston Cares mobilizes and trains individual and corporate volunteers who strengthen communities and improve the lives of people in need. We are the largest volunteer agency in New England, a member of the Points of Light affiliate network and a leader in the volunteer engagement sector. We build relationships with schools and nonprofits with needs that can be filled by teams of volunteers; and then we recruit, train and lead reliable and enthusiastic groups of volunteers who get the job done. Our year-round volunteer programs and seasonal signature service events engage adults of all ages, children & teens and corporate partners. In 2016, Boston Cares celebrated our 25th anniversary and our one millionth hour of service.

Our corporate engagement program works with over 60 companies and over 5,000 volunteers annually to produce customized hands-on service projects designed to meet community needs and corporate engagement goals. Projects include revitalizing learning environments, providing STEM education activities to large groups of students, painting, landscaping and carpentry projects to enhance the sites of agency partners, and constructing beds for children in need.

Position Summary:  Reporting to the Associate Director of Corporate Engagement, and working closely in collaboration with the entire Corporate Engagement Team, the Corporate Project Operations Manager will play an integral role in the coordination of service project logistics for Boston Cares corporate engagement programs, including managing supply inventory, procurement and distribution.

Key responsibilities of the Corporate Project Operations Manager will include: 

  •  Manage day to day operations and inventory of supply storage facility

o  Keep storage space organized for easy access

o  Develop and maintain inventory management system

o  Ensure storage is consistently organized, and accessible for other team members

  • Manage supply procurement system

o  Develop and maintain a supply ordering system that can be efficiently used by team members

o  Purchase supplies requested by program managers

o  Track supply spending by project

o  Ensure consistent, reliable stream of commonly used, consumable supplies

o  Maintain tools and durable supplies

o  Purchase supplies at local stores as needed

  •  Manage distribution and return of supplies

o  Coordinate with program managers to ensure supply lists for projects are complete, and supplies are available

o  Manage the packing of project supplies for projects

o  Coordinate supply trucks, delivery and drop-off of supplies

o  Receive returned supplies to the storage facility; ensure supplies are restocked

  • Train staff and project leaders in safe use of tools and driving of supply trucks/vans
  • Develop new portable project options, including building out project instructions, supplies and costs
  • Develop new, and as needed refine existing, carpentry projects, including prototypes, instructions, supplies and costs
  • Support pre- and post-project needs, including data collection and entry
  •  As needed, serve as an onsite volunteer leader for hands-on projects
  •  As needed, attend site visits to assess projects and supply needs

Additionally, the Corporate Project Operations Manager will:

•  Be an active member of the Boston Cares staff team

•  Establish and meet yearly goals and objectives

•  Represent Boston Cares externally at service projects, with agency and corporate partners, and at other events

Qualifications:

•  Bachelor’s degree or comparable experience

•  Familiarity with tasks such as painting, landscaping and carpentry

•  Demonstrated interest in the nonprofit sector and corporate social responsibility

•  Strong attention to detail and ability to manage many moving projects at once

•  Comfort working independently in our off-site storage facility

•  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

•  Interest and ability to work as part of small team in a fast-paced environment

•  Demonstrated ability to manage a project from start to finish

•  Ability to lift and move project supplies (up to 50 lbs) and be standing throughout the day leading projects

•  Valid driver’s license; comfortable driving cargo vans and 10-14’ trucks

The Corporate Project Operations Manager is a full-time, salaried position with benefits and three weeks vacation.
