Digital Design Studio Assistant - Tisch Library - Work Study or Non-Work Study

Digital Design Studio Assistant


Note: We are currently only hiring students who can work this summer between the hours of 12pm and 9pm, Sunday-Thursday.



Description

The Digital Design Studio is a educational resource for entry into digital design, supporting student course and research projects, as well as independent and extracurricular work by students, faculty, and staff. 

Currently, we primarily serve video, audio, and print design. Our biggest services are large-format printing; a recording room for basic audio and video needs; self-service digitization equipment for analog media formats like VHS, vinyl, and film negatives; and basic 3D printing. Our space has a teaching, learning, and studying area of 16 computers with the Adobe Creative Cloud and other design software.

Studio Assistants are the first line of support in the studio, welcoming patrons and responding to their questions, as well as providing service for our large-format printing appointments and recording room reservations. Additionally, Studio Assistants clean, maintain, and troubleshoot the studio space. The position is primarily independent work with minimal supervision, but we provide training on our core services.









Responsibilities

  • Serve as a friendly representative of the space and our services
  • Assist patrons with learning basic digital design skills, particularly for video, audio, and print 
  • Participate in trainings and continually improve your design and digital media skills
  • Clean and maintain the studio space, including the recording room, teaching space, and printing and trimming area
  • Serve patrons with large-format printing appointments, operate large-format printer for patrons
  • Familiarize first-time users with our recording room 
  • Assist patrons digitizing photographic prints, negatives, slides, VHS tapes, DVDs, CDs, etc.
  • Work with DDS staff on projects such as creating signage, documentation, tutorials or helping to facilitate workshops


Qualifications

Required

  • Interest in learning design software and hardware
  • Strong commitment to outstanding public service
  • Abie to work effectively with a culturally diverse community
  • Able to work approximately 6-10 hours a week
  • Self-motivated learner who can work independently 
  • Able to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds

Preferred

  • Customer service, teaching, or tutoring experience experience
  • Interest or practice in video, audio, and/or print design
  • Familiarity with or prior use of the Digital Design Studio and its services
  • Knowledge of design software, particularly Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Audition, iMovie, Audacity, Canva, and TinkerCAD
  • Knowledge of photo and video cameras, audio recorders, microphones, and/or photograph and film scanning

Accessibility Information

Located on top floor, accessible by elevator. Some lifting required (25 lbs).
