Supervising Social Worker

ABOUT THE JOB
Under the direction of the Manager, Regional Center Services for the county, this position oversees a group of 10-12 social workers, ensures completion of reports and paperwork in accordance within prescribed procedures, policies, and timetables are followed, provides training and direction and acts as an advocate for individuals supported by the agency.
DUTIES
This position manages social workers to ensure initial and ongoing assessment of, and case management activities for, persons supported by the Agency to efficiently utilize time and resources. Participates in the hiring of staff and trains, develops, provides feedback, coaches and evaluates staff. Monitors existing caseloads and assigns new cases.

Reviews required reports and other documentation created by each staff member for content and accuracy, and to ensure compliance with established standards and processes. May assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures.

Serves as back up to the Manager, Regional Center Services and social workers as needed. Represents agency or unit on internal and community committees and task forces as assigned. Performs Supervisor of Day functions as required by office and in special projects as needed, and performs and/or assists with additional duties or tasks, as assigned.

Participates in special projects, and assists with additional duties or tasks, as assigned. Maintains all individual-served related information as confidential in compliance with the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and the California Lanterman Act.
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
 
·    Master’s Degree in Social Work or related human services field with 3 years of Regional Center experience or Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related human services field with 3-4 years of Regional Center experience.  

Note: prior Case Management supervisory experience may be substituted for Regional Center experience

·    4+ years case management experience in Human Services agency with increasing responsibility
 
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
 
·      Strong management skills with the proven ability to motivate develop and lead staff, while holding them accountable to meet the agency standards and legal requirements of position

·      Ability to lead team with direction focused on individuals supported outcomes and values by resolving issues and using critical thinking skills to make decisions that are consistent with past practices and current business practice

·      Coach and support staff by being accessible and providing immediate and constructive feedback

·      Ability to convey complex information and ideas verbally and in writing

·      Demonstrated knowledge of agency policy and procedures related to Lanterman regulations and program requirement

·      Ability to interpret regulations and develop necessary procedures to comply with requirements

·      Strong knowledge and commitment to current Person Centered Thinking practices and techniques, including interviewing

·      Knowledge of principles, objectives and techniques of counseling families and individuals

·      Knowledge of requirements for internal documentation and maintenance of records for those supported

·      Able to communicate with and influence community and state agencies on program requirements, interpretations and detail

·      Knowledge of normal and abnormal individual and group behavior, human growth and development of family relationships

·      Knowledge of community structure and organization and how to intervene constructively on behalf of those served

NOTE: Access to reliable transportation permitting travel to and between many different locations throughout the day in order to perform the outlined responsibilities of the position, is required.
