Administrative/Operations Intern - LeadingAge Summer Enrichment Program

Job Title: Administrative/Operations Intern – LeadingAge Summer Enrichment Program Internship
Internship Description: The LeadingAge Summer Enrichment Program is a 10-week immersive internship for students who are enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs. The internship at Good Shepherd Community Care will focus on administrative functions, operations, and management of a not-for-profit hospice and palliative care organization. The goal of the internship is to develop diverse leadership for the future of end of life care. The internship will be developed with the selected candidate in order to allow exploration of the candidate’s interests and skill sets. 
Reporting Structure:  The intern will report to a supervisor to be later determined by Good Shepherd that best fits the interests and skills of the selected candidate.
Organizational Description: Good Shepherd Community Care is one of the most trusted health care organizations in Greater Boston focusing on hospice and palliative care. Founded as Hospice of the Good Shepherd in 1978, we are the original Massachusetts hospice. Intern and Preceptor Responsibilities:
  • A preceptor will provide guidance to the intern and meet with the intern weekly and as needed 
  • Summer projects will be assigned to the intern that will benefit the organization and culminate with a special projects presentation to organizational leaders 
  • The intern will receive access to high-level executives and insight on the decision-making process within the organization. This will include:
  • A meeting with President/CEO
  • Participation in department, staff, and board meetings
  • Mentoring opportunities with key leaders within the organization 
  • The intern will be provided access to a workspace and receive a full employee orientation
  • The intern and preceptor will attend virtual LeadingAge Summer Enrichment Program events including:
  • Summer Enrichment Program - Networking event for Interns
  • Summer Enrichment Program - Networking event for Preceptors 
  • Preceptor will provide a formal performance review upon completion of the internship
Focus of the Internship: 
  • To shape, develop, and mentor a diverse workforce bound for leadership roles
  • To expose future talent to the field of aging and end-of-life care
  • To provide additional skills to prepare students to enter the job market, including presentations, and a performance evaluation to further enhance their experience
  • To provide a positive learning experience including a final evaluation focusing on positive accomplishments and opportunities for growth
Qualifications:
  • Ideal candidate will be a student nearing the end of his/her undergraduate studies or in graduate school and pursuing a degree in healthcare, health policy, public health, or another related field
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (DACA students are eligible to apply)
Compensation:
  • $6,000 stipend for 40 hour per week, 10 week internship
