About the Migration, Remittances & Development Internship Program
The Dialogue’s remittances and development program seeks to help countries better leverage migration and remittances for development. The program analyzes and assesses policies governing the flow of remittances, private sector financial and remittance services, and financial access for migrants and remittance recipient families. Through research, technical assistance, product development, and project implementation, the program has raised awareness and forged partnerships among public and private institutions across the hemisphere.
The intern in the Dialogue’s remittances and development program will participate as a research assistant in several worldwide remittances and development projects. The intern can expect to:
- Research trends and patterns of international remittance flows, focusing in such areas as financial intermediation and money transfer industry competition and development;
- Research migration policy in the US, Central America, and other regions;
- Provide editing assistance in the preparation of reports and newsletters, as well as assist in logistical work related to the preparation and organization of meetings;
- Research on country specific migration and remittances contexts, including access to financial services and legislation.
Interns should:
- Have a background or interest in economics, statistics and/or finance;
- Have experience with Excel, SPSS or STATA;
- Have an interest in and willingness to do research on regions outside of the Western Hemisphere;
- Have experience in communications, event planning, development, or data management;
- Be enrolled in a college or university as a graduate or undergraduate student or have graduated no more than six months prior to the start of the internship;
- Demonstrate interest in Latin America and the Caribbean;
- Have strong writing and research abilities;
- Be proficient in English and Spanish, Portuguese, and / or French;
- Be available for a minimum of eight sixteen to twenty hour weeks during the fall and spring terms or thirty to forty hours a week during the summer term;

NOTE: The Dialogue’s Internship Program for Summer 2021 will be remote. Applicants do not have to be based in DC. Circumstances permitting, interns may have the opportunity to participate in a combined in-person/remote internship at the Dialogue’s DC office. This may be an option later in the semester. However, interns can still choose to continue their internship remotely if they prefer or if they are not based in DC.
