The National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START) at the University of Maryland, College Park, is now hiring a full-time Education Coordinator to provide administrative and programmatic support to students, faculty, and staff in START's Global Terrorism Studies Minor (GTSM) program, Graduate Certificate in Terrorism Analysis, and other graduate programs.

Responsibilities:

Marketing and Recruitment
●       Conducting marketing activities for educational programs in tandem with the communications team, Office of Extended Studies, and other education team members
●       Recruiting new students, including providing updates to program marketing materials and hosting informational sessions to both students and academic units as applicable
 
Application and Admissions Support
●       Coordinating the application process for all applicants to each of the programs (40 students per year GTSM and approximately 30 students per year for graduate programs)
●       Communicating and responding to inquiries from potential applicants about updates to application guidelines and submission of applications
●       Tracking applications and monitoring progress towards completion
●       Facilitating admissions notifications for GTSM
 
Orientation and Program Progress
●       Overseeing new student orientation including conducting both online and in-person orientation event and disseminating welcome materials to all incoming students
●       Staying abreast of program and institutional policies and protocols and communicating updates and changes to applicants, students, staff and faculty
●       Working with students and faculty to ensure compliance with policies and guidelines
●       Tracking all student interactions with the program, including progress through coursework
●       Maintaining student records
●       Conducting student record audits and completing graduation clearances
 
Administration
●       Contributing to written evaluation reports as required, including the annual departmental report to the College
●       Tracking program metrics and reporting out to senior staff as needed and upon request
●       Serving as department scheduler for all educational programs (SIS and 25Live)
●       Maintaining day-to-day administrative activities of the program including monitoring and responding to general education email inquiries and maintaining listservs
●       Submitting curriculum and course updates to UMD's Division of Academic Affairs (CIM)
 
Required Qualifications:
●       Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
●       At least three years of experience coordinating educational programs or related work experience
●       Experience working in an academic department or admissions office working with both faculty and students

Preferred Qualifications:
●       Master’s degree in a relevant field
●       Prior experience working with both undergraduate and graduate students
●       Prior experience working with online programs and educational courses
●       Prior experience developing educational programming for professionals
●       Prior experience with University of Maryland systems (SIS, SAS, UAchieve, TerpEngage, UMeg, etc.)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
To succeed in the position, the successful candidate should be self-directed with a demonstrated ability to organize work effectively and efficiently, paying close attention to detail. This position will require the candidate to: 1) use critical thinking and analytical skills, 2) demonstrate proficiency with MS Office Suite and database applications, 3) multi-task and prioritize work, 4) maintain student confidentiality as required by the standards set forth by FERPA, 5) communicate professionally via all modes of communication, 6) exercise standards of professionalism including in appearance, presentation and demeanor, 7) work collaboratively with a small team of education and training staff members, and 8) foster positive relationships with departmental faculty and staff and other institutional representatives.

Salary:
This is a salaried Professional Track Faculty position. All START faculty are on one-year contracts, extended upon availability of funding. The work week consists of 40 hours per week and the salary range is $45,000 to $55,000, commensurate with experience. The person selected for this position will work remotely initially, and work onsite at START headquarters once the organization resumes office operations and ends the work from home protocol. The person selected will work closely with the Director of Undergraduate Studies and Director of Graduate Studies, and report directly to START’s Program Director for Education and Training.
