Bioinformatician II

Bioinformatician II sought by Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a 777-bed teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School, research scientists and other health care professionals, to work in the Clinical Bioinformatics group at the Department of Pathology (Center for Advanced Molecular Diagnostics). Responsible for algorithm development, data analysis, quality assurance/testing, pipeline software/computing development, user interface design web-based application development, Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) development, and report development. Apply in-depth knowledge on setting up Clarity LIMS for operationalizing lab and accessioning workflows. Responsible for custom scripting and development in XML and Python in a LINUX and Windows environment. In addition, should have knowledge of working with and querying ORACLE databases and building REST APIs. Must know the Next Gen Sequencing Lab workflows in detail and provide training and guidance to the lab on the steps and details. Other than LIMS, utilize PERL, MySQL, Cluster Computing for developing pipelines and applications and Tableau for creating various dashboards for stakeholders (Brigham and Women’s Hospital & Dana Farber Cancer Institute medical and scientific staff). Collaborate with Dana Farber faculty and researchers on the communication of research results through conference presentations, scientific publications, or project reports. Train technical and other staff on new applications, processes, hardware. Troubleshoot and provide support on any issues that arise in the production workflows and create quick workarounds, bug fixes, enhancements, etc. to the products supported by the Team (Pipeline, Applications, LIMS, etc.). Utilize extensive knowledge of cancer genomics and how to use bioinformatics tools to apply that to operationalize clinical workflows.

Position located in Boston, MA.

Requirements include a Master’s degree or equivalent in Bioinformatics, Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, or related field and four years of work experience in the job offered or related field of Bioinformatics or a closely related field.

Must have at least four years of experience with algorithm development, data analysis, quality assurance/testing, pipeline software/computing development, user interface design & report development, web-based application development, Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) development, and report development. Must have at least three years of experience with Lab Next Gen Sequencing workflow steps for Tumor Sequencing and Cancer Clinical Sequencing. Must have at least four years of experience with Python scripting; four years of experience with relational database management systems such as MySQL, MS SQL, and Oracle. Must have at least four years of experience with working with Mini LIMS application and PHP scripting; and providing technical Support and training to clinical and medical staff. Must have at least three years of experience accessioning workflows and Lab Clinical Operational workflows. Must have at least two years of experience with Clarity LIMS as well as setting up, configuring, debugging, developing, testing new or existing workflows for lab and accessioning teams. Must have at least two years of experience with Pathologist Signout Application and Lab review application workflows and processes involved to solve any integration issues or downstream/upstream issues. Must have at least one year of experience with integration of Clarity LIMS with Hospital Systems specifically Powerpath. Must have at least one year of experience developing reports on Tableau based on data obtained from multiple sources and databases like SQL server, MySQL, and Oracle.
