Journalism Intern, Innovation Policy News (Paid)

The Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF)—a nonprofit, nonpartisan science and tech policy think tank—seeks an aspiring journalist with excellent writing skills, a nose for news, and strong attention to detail for an internship in winter-spring 2022, starting in January. This position will produce two to four stories per week for publication in Innovation Policy News, a digital news project covering legislation, regulation, and administrative actions affecting scientific and technological innovation in the U.S. and global economies.

The ideal candidates will have a keen interest in economic and technology policy issues and be familiar with U.S. legislative and regulatory processes. The internship offers an opportunity to develop reporting skills and build a portfolio of published clips while writing for a nonprofit news start-up in its early stages of growth.

Preference will be given to candidates currently enrolled in an academic program directly relating to the position (e.g., Communications or Journalism majors), especially those with at least 2 years of academic experience. Previous journalism internships and/or experience writing for student newspapers is a plus.

The internship will be part-time—15-20 hours per week—with flexibility to accommodate students’ class schedules. ITIF is based in Washington, D.C., and the internship will focus primarily on developments in Congress and federal agencies, however interns may work remotely from anywhere.

To apply for this internship, please submit the following at https://jobapply.page.link/79MD:

  • Cover letter stating your specific interest and qualifications for the position (one page max). Resumes submitted without a tailored cover letter will not be considered.
  • Resume (one page max).
  • Three short writing samples (ideally news clips or blog posts, but academic papers or other nonfiction works are also acceptable).

Applications will be considered until the position(s) are filled.
