Intern, GIS, Chelsea, MA
The MWRA has an opening for an internship to assist GIS staff in migrating various ArcMap projects to ArcGIS Pro. Provide GIS support on other projects as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Work under the supervision of GIS Coordinator to convert ArcMap Water Quality town maps (.mxd) to ArcGIS Pro (.aprx). Tasks include but not limited to adjusting "feature-linked" sampling sites identifiers, re-organizing map layout for each town, adding and configuring "dynamic" text labels on the maps, and hyperlinking sampling sites in GIS map to Google Maps.
  • Work under the supervision of GIS Program Manager to review and update MWRA's sewer interceptors GIS data. The review process includes checking engineering drawings for diameters and updating MWRA's enterprise GIS data, "georecitifying" engineering drawings where there are missing georectified files, and creating a database of pipe "stationing" obtained from the georectified engineering drawings.
  • Work under the supervision of GIS Coordinator to review and update community sewer connections (1,700+) to the MWRA's sewer interceptors. The review process includes checking community's GIS sewer pipes and manholes data against MWRA's GIS connections data, and may include viewing TV Inspections tapes using GraniteXP to resolve conflicts. The update process includes researching for drawings showing sewer pipes connecting directly from buildings to MWRA's sewer interceptors and mapping those sewer pipes.
