Fixed Income - Investment Associate

Position Overview

Investment Associates are integral members of the fundamental credit research process with focus on High Yield and Investment Grade Corporates, Municipals, or Emerging Markets. The primary responsibility of the Investment Associate is to support the Research Analyst; conduct company and industry analysis (and if applicable, sovereign analysis); and analyze complex capital structures, including valuing securities and anticipating changes that will affect the values and prices of those securities. This model maximizes the analyst’s productivity and provides the Investment Associate with the greatest learning opportunity. Over time associates will be given opportunities to assume independent sector coverage.

Position Responsibilities

Building and updating company models. This incorporates income statements, balance sheets and cash flow statements, and will include both historical and forecasted information.

• Gather, adjust, and summarize research information

• Assist in building and updating industry and market demand models

• Help prepare reports and presentations; including but not limited to written research, exhibit preparation and graphical and/or database work

• Attend company meetings, conferences, and site visits

• Undertake various special projects to support the goals and needs of the department and/or analyst. Examples include field research and data gathering

• Monitor and coordinate a substantial portion of the incoming research from third parties (Wall Street dealers, competitors, rating agencies, and a range of industry sources)

Education and Work Experience

BA or BS degree required: significant coursework in finance or economics, along with familiarity with accounting, is desirable

• Superior undergraduate record

• Prior work experience in the financial industry is a plus, personal interest in the financial markets is also viewed favorably

• Demonstrated analytical, critical thinking, and quantitative skills;

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

• Excellent computer skills, beyond simple spreadsheet applications

• Team player; willingness to work with people at all levels to promote the common interest; willingness to work tirelessly toward the achievement of departmental and personal goals
