Communications Coordinator
The ACLU of
Massachusetts is hiring a Communications Coordinator to manage media databases,
manage and produce content for constituent-relationship emails and online
platforms, produce content and provide project support for publications, and
assist with overall department administration. This position will report
directly to the Director of Communications, and be part of a team of five
(three full-time staff, two consultants).
General requirements include:
- Good
problem-solving skills, flexibility, determination, and good humor;
- Strong
organizational skills and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment;
- Strong
collaboration skills and ability to work with other staff in a close-knit
office of around 30 people, including legislative specialists, lawyers,
fundraisers, board members, volunteers, and others;
- Availability
to work beyond 9–5 as needed and a flexible schedule to ensure coverage;
- A demonstrable commitment to the mission and principles of the ACLU, including strong cultural competence and commitment to racial justice.
Specific requirements include:
- Communications,
public relations, or journalism background;
- Strong
writing and editing skills;
- Familiarity
with media tracking software;
- Disciplined,
detail-oriented approach to database management;
- Strong
analytical skills and ability to produce reports based on both quantitative and
qualitative data;
- Experience
with HTML tagging;
- Familiarity with constituent-relationship management systems including Salesforce and Capwiz.
Other preferred include:
- Experience
with Drupal, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP;
- Experience
with Meltwater;
- Experience
with Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, photography, podcast, and video
production and promotion;
- Fluency in Spanish.
Position Responsibilities:
Media database management, tracking, and analysis
- Managing
Meltwater software platform to track press contacts/relationships,
interactions, and all ACLU media hits
- Regularly
producing reports based on quantitative and qualitative analysis of
communications metrics and data
- Supporting
Communications Director press relations work by making evidence-informed
recommendations
Email and web content production, and platform
management
- Drafting,
formatting, proofreading, fact-checking, and managing distribution of ACLU of
Massachusetts’ monthly constituent emails (“CAN”). Content production will
reflect strategic communications interests of ACLU of MA and require close
coordination with legal, legislative, field, advocacy and development staff
- Managing
email calendar
- Managing
Capwiz, an online advocacy program that allows ACLU to send action alerts and
advocacy messages to supporters or members
- Responding
to emails sent to our action@aclum.org account
- Managing Drupal and Springboard, content management platforms used to create online surveys, petitions, and RSVP forms
Special project, publication and administrative
support
- Assisting
development and communications staff in content production and publication of
ACLUM Annual Report
- Assisting communications
staff in content production and publication of ACLUM’s yearly action report,
The Docket
- Assisting
communications staff with special projects and campaign-specific communications
- Providing administrative, clerical and logistical support to Communications Director
